Ty Pozzobon was made to be a cowboy. Seeing his childhood dreams through, Pozzobon quickly rose to bull riding stardom, excelling within the elite ranks of the PBR by the age of 25. However, after sustaining countless injuries throughout his career, Pozzobon lost the battle within his own mind on January 9, 2017, tragically taking his own life.
In the wake of the tragedy that rocked the Western sports world, the Ty Pozzobon Foundation was launched by his closest friends, working to protect and support the health and well-being of rodeo competitors both inside and outside the arena. Key to the organization’s mission was promoting the importance of mental health by providing Western sports athletes with access to counselling, health and medical related information and resources, support programs and medical services.
While Injuries and accidents will never be completely preventable, it is the hope of the Ty Pozzobon Foundation that by pushing Western sports towards advancements through education, injury protection equipment, along with the creation of standardized injury protocols and a culture that talks about mental health issues instead of pushing them aside, future losses, like that of Ty, could be prevented.
